Rider Wins MAAC Opener Versus Canisius

The Broncs blanked the Griffs, 3-0 on Saturday

Lawrenceville, NJ – The Rider University volleyball team blanked visiting Canisius, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymasium. The Broncs (6-6, 1-0 MAAC) topped the Golden Griffs (2-9, 0-1 MAAC) by scores of 25-11, 25-29 and 25-12.  

The Broncs scored their fourth shutout win this year and the second thanks to recording 42 kills and 44 digs as a team. Junior Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) and senior Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, PA/Padua Academy) paced the Rider attack with 11 kills apiece, while junior Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin) chipped in 10 kills.

Senior Veronica Koval (Allentown, PA/Parkland) had another strong game setting, dishing out 35 assists.
 Defensively, freshman Brynn Sherbet ( had a team-best 10 digs, while Koval registered nine and senior Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) added eight digs.    

Notes
- Veronica Koval was named the MAAC Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. She became the first Bronc to earn league-wide distinction this season and she picked up weekly accolades for the first time in her career. Last week, she averaged 9.79 assists per set and recorded a pair of double-doubles as Rider went 2-2 at the 12th Annual Friar Classic hosted by Providence College.
- The Broncs have now won six of the last seven meetings against the Griffs.
- Rider has won four of its last five matches and shutout three opponents during that stretch.
- The Broncs are 3-0 in the Garden State and 2-0 at home in 2017.

Broncs by the Numbers
-Two Broncs had 10 or more digs.
- Aldaya is now 22 digs away from setting a new Rider record.
- Savannah Logan has registered 10 or more kills in three of her last four matches.
- Hailey Riede has also recorded 10 or more digs in four straight matches. It marked her fifth match with 10 or more kills this season.  
- Jennifer Borio has registered 10 or more kills in five matches in 2017.
