Broncs Win a Pair at the Bob Hannah Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
NEWARK, DE – The Rider University baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader at the Bob Hannah Invitational on Sunday afternoon, defeating Delaware State, 4-2, and host Delaware, 4-3, at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Broncs (3-4) have now won three straight games.

In the first game of the day, Rider pushed across two runs in the eighth inning to break a two-two tie. In the frame, senior catcher Lee Lipinski (Glen Arm, MD/Calvert Hall) had a one-out RBI single to left to bring the eventual game-winning run home. Later in the stanza, Harrison McClure (Atlanta, GA/South Florida State/North Atlanta) came around to score an insurance run on an error by the Delaware State catcher.

On the mound, sophomore Dylan Simcik (Newtown, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) worked a scoreless inning of relief to earn his second win of the spring. In the ninth, Andrew Tumbelty (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) retired the side in order for his first save of the season.

In the nightcap, McClure and junior infielder Christian Estevez (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) both went 2-for-4 with an RBI as Rider defeated host Delaware, 4-3. The Broncs erased an early two-run deficit by scoring one run in both the fourth and fifth innings before plating a pair in the sixth. The two-run outburst in the sixth once again broke a two-two tie as Tyler Kaiser (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) smack an RBI triple to right center and would later come around to score on a sac fly from Lipinkski.

Nick Margevicius (North Royalton, OH/Saint Ignatius) got the win for the Broncs after tossing five innings and allowing just two earned runs, while striking out seven. In relief, Josh Sharik (Ewing, NJ/Plumstead Christian School) threw three innings of no-hit relief and Tumbelty got out of a jam in the ninth to earn the save.
