POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Marist won three tightly-contested doubles matches and all six singles flights to defeat the Rider University women's tennis team, 7-0, Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 6-7 (1-4 MAAC), while the Red Foxes are now 5-3 (2-0 MAAC).
“We played a very strong team today,” said Rider Head Coach
Doug Potkay. “They didn't make many mistakes and dictated play. Both teams battled and put up a good fight. But we didn't have the consistency to close out the critical points. The women's doubles teams played extremely well today. Very close and competitive.”
The Red Foxes took the top doubles flight by a 6-3 score, while securing the point with 6-4 decisions at Nos. 2 and 3. In singles, Marist took five of six flights in straight sets, while
Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) battled to force a third set at No. 5. She fell in the decisive frame, 6-1.
The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they play host to Saint Peter's. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
