Hoskova Scores Her 1,000th Career Point in Overtime Loss Versus Siena

She finished with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds

Lawrenceville, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team fell to visiting Siena, 71-67, in overtime on Saturday afternoon in  Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action inside Alumni Gymnasium.

Despite the loss, it was a day to remember for senior Kamila Hoskova (Brno, Czech Republic/ Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka) as she became the 22nd player in program history to record 1,000 career points after sinking a free throw early in the fourth quarter.

Rider (3-10, 0-2 MAAC) dropped their third straight at home, while the Saints (6-7, 1-1 MAAC) bounced back from setback against MAAC Pre-Season favorite on Thursday.

Siena opened the overtime period on a 6-0 run and never looked back en route to the win. During the spurt, the Broncs missed four shots and committed a turnover.

Siena got off to a hot start, jumping out to an early 12-4 advantage thanks to knocking down their first five shots from the field. The Saints would stretch their lead to as many as 10 in the opening quarter before the Broncs closed out the first frame on a 4-0 run thanks to a pair of lay-ups to trail by six at 18-12 after 10 minutes of action.

In the second quarter, sophomore Lexi Stover (Malvern, PA/Arhcbishop Carroll) provided a spark off the bench for Rider with a pair of three-pointers as the Broncs cut the deficit to just four at 33-29 at the break. In the second stanza, Rider shot 50 percent (6-of-12) from the field and forced five Siena turnovers to make it a two-possession contest at the half.

In the third quarter, Rider came charging back to take its first lead of the game thanks to Hoskova and sophomore Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) combined to score 19 points in the frame. Junior point guard Lexi Posset (Pittsburgh, PA/Beaver Area) added six points in the stanza as the Broncs outscored the Saints, 25-16, coming out of the break.

Offensively, Hoskova paced the Rider attack as she finished with 23 points on 10-of-22 shooting. She was also 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. Her miss in the fourth quarter snapped a streak of 28 consecutive free throws made. Stella Johnson and Posset were the other Broncs in double figures with 10 points apiece.

NOTES & QUOTES
"At halftime I said to the team this is shaping up to be a typical Rider-Siena game. It's a physical, tough and hard-fought game every time we play. They did a great job today. Siena got the ball to the right people at the right time." – Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan

"I'm glad I have a couple of months to figure out what I really want to say about Kami when she leaves this place because there's not enough words for me to describe her. For her to break her nose against Binghamton, play 40 minutes against Marist, be in the hospital all day yesterday getting surgery and then show up today playing another 40-plus minutes and scoring her 1,000th point who does that. There aren't a lot of kids who would have suited up today after what she went through. She's a warrior and she's everything that this program embodies. I could not be more proud of her." – Milligan

- The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Rider against Siena after the Broncs swept the season series last year.
- The Saints lead the all-time series, 33-13.
- Rider shot over 73 percent (11-of-15) in the third quarter.
- The Broncs were 9-of-11 from the charity stripe, while the Saints were 16-of-24 from the foul line.
- It marked the seventh game this season in which Rider hit better than 75 percent of their free-throw attempts.
- Both teams had 11 assists, 37 rebounds and seven steals in the game.
- The last four games between the Broncs and Saints have been decided by four points or fewer.
- Rider is now 0-4 in games decided by five points or fewer this year.
