Women's Soccer Battles Back For 1-1 Tie At Quinnipiac

Picinich scores equalizer in 85th minute

HAMDEN, CT – Sam Picinich (North Bellmore, NY/Mepham) scored the equalizer in the 85th minute as the Rider University women's soccer team played Quinnipiac to a 1-1 tie on the road Wednesday afternoon. With the draw, the Broncs remain at .500 in league play (2-2-2 MAAC) and move to 2-8-2 overall. The Bobcats are now 6-5-2 (3-1-2 MAAC).
 
The Bobcats' Nadya Gill opened the scoring in the 4th minute, blasting a shot following Madison Borowiec's win of a 50-50 ball at midfield. Following more than 80 scoreless minutes, the Broncs kept the pressure on, with Picinich collecting the rebound of a Michelle Iacono (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) shot and depositing it into the back of the net for the equalizer.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Carmen Carbonell (Valencia, Spain/Guadalaviar) made all four of her saves in the two overtime periods, including three in the second overtime, to preserve the draw.

"Nadya Gill scored a quality goal in the first five minutes and we definitely looked sluggish in our possession and movement. The second half was a different story and it was great to see the response as we created a ton of good chances, hit the post and controlled the tempo. Like last game, the team energy was fantastic and they showed the resilience to get back in the game with just under five minutes to go."

- Rider is now 3-1-1 against Quinnipiac all-time, with all five matches coming since the Bobcats joined the MAAC in 2013.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Picinich scored her second goal of the year, with both coming in the last four games. She also has two assists for six points on the season.
- Iacono's assist gives her six on the season, three times the next-closest Bronc's total. She also leads the team in goals (4) and points (14).
- Carbonell made four saves on the day. Over her last seven games, she's posted a 0.74 goals-against average and an .844 save percentage.
- The Broncs and Bobcats both got off 19 shots in the contest, with Rider enjoying an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.  
- Quinnipiac took seven corner kicks to the Broncs' five.
