Rider University 3, Canisius College 0
BUFFALO, NY—The Broncs were ready for prime time.
In a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match seen on ESPN3, the Rider University volleyball team scored a 3-0 victory at Canisius College on Sunday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center.
Rider (7-9, 1-3 MAAC) won 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 over the Golden Griffins.
“This was a must win for us,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano who saw his squad come into the match 0-3 in the conference. “Yesterday we controlled most of the match and made critical errors in really bad spots (against Niagara). Today when we came out to play this match, we came out the way I expected them to: disciplined, focused, and hungry. There are still some things that we need to clean up especially in our execution coming out of timeouts but the season is still young and we continue to improve every day.”
For the Broncs, senior Kaitlyn Griffin had nine kills, three digs, three blocks and two service aces and she is now just two kills away from 1,000 in her collegiate career.
Sophomore Hailey Riede also had nine kills and attacked .529 with junior Emma Aldaya adding 14 digs.
Junior Veronica Koval added 30 assists, seven digs and three blocks for the Broncs.
Rider forced 25 Canisius errors and out-attacked the Golden Griffins .281 to .038.
The Broncs travel to Manhattan on Wednesday night for a MAAC match, beginning at 7pm.
