Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY—Despite 14 kills from sophomore Hailey Riede, the Rider University volleyball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Niagara University on Saturday afternoon.
Rider (6-9, 0-3 MAAC) took the opening set 25-21 before the Purple Eagles battled back with wins of 25-21, 28-26, 25-23.
“The match was all on us today,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano, who saw his squad make 20 attack errors and 11 service errors. “We had major leads all the way through. Unforced errors were the challenge. We can't win matches being undisciplined. We don't make the aggressive error; we freeze up when we are in the lead and expect the other team to just lie down sometimes. Today that bit us and bit us hard.”
Riede attacked .321.
Senior Ryan Ackermann had 11 kills and eight digs while adding two blocks with senior Kaitlyn Griffin adding 10 kills. Griffin now has 989 career kills with Ackermann now at 950 career kills.
Junior Veronica Koval had 42 assists and three service aces.
Rider has won 11 of 31 matches all-time against the Purple Eagles with the teams splitting the season series last season.
Rider stays in Western, New York to face Canisius College on Sunday at 1pm in a match that will be seen on ESPN3.
