LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University 3-0 on Wednesday night in Alumni Gymnasium.

“I thought we played a very solid defensive match,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano.  “I'm pleased with how disciplined we were.  We knew what we needed to get done tonight and it was just important for us to just go out, have fun and play and play as a cohesive unit.”

Rider (6-8) won 28-26, 25-13, 25-15, holding FDU to an attack percentage of .019 and forced 25 errors.

For the Broncs, senior Kaitlyn Griffin had 11 kills, three blocks and attacked .421 with junior Veronica Koval adding 31 assists, 11 digs and four service aces.

“We had to play with a short memory,” Griffin said.  “Once a ball hits the ground, whether it's a point or error, we need to focus on the next play and not let it affect us the next five plays.”

Also for Rider, junior Emma Aldaya had 11 digs and senior Ryan Ackermann added 10 digs.

“Everyone was involved and focused on one objective and that was getting the win,” Feliciano said.  “It was just a solid defensive effort.”

Rider also defeated FDU 3-0 on September 10 at the Boston College tournament, a win that gave Feliciano career victory number 200.

The Broncs hit the road for six straight matches beginning with a trip to Western, New York for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches against Niagara on September 24 and Canisius September 25.  Rider returns home on October 15 for a MAAC match against Manhattan.

“It's our favorite road trip,” Feliciano joked.  “Seriously on this trip, we are going to see what the team is made of.  The conference is very tight this year and we are going to face some quality teams.”
