LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—On one of the most important days of the season the Rider Broncs had one of their worst days of the season.

The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader to Marist Saturday.

“I have nothing positive to say about today,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis. “It got to the point today where it was almost embarrassing.”

In the first game sophomore Nick Margevicius (North Royalton, Ohio/St. Ignatius) pitched into the seventh inning and allowed just one run and one walk while striking out four. “Nick threw well,” Davis said.  “He was one of the few people who had a good day today.”

Rider (16-31, 8-12 MAAC) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a home run by freshman Riley Mihalik (Churchville, PA/Chestnut Hill), his third of the season.  Mihalik also doubled in the first game and had four hits on the day, including two doubles. “Mihalik had a good day today,' Davis said. “That's about it.”

Freshman Brennan McAllister (Middletown, DE/Middletown) hit a pinch-hit home run, his first, in the ninth inning for the final score of game one.

Marist (23-22, 12-8 MAAC) tied the score at 1-1 in the seventh inning on a home run, and scored two in the eighth on a double, a walk, a fielder's choice and an error for a 3-1 lead. The Red Foxes added three runs in the ninth on two hits, a walk and an RBI ground out.

In the second game Marist scored four runs in the second inning on two walks, three hits and a squeeze bunt to take a 4-1 lead.  The Red Foxes put up a five spot in the fifth on five hits, including two doubles and a home run, to put the game away.

Rider senior James Locklear (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) had three hits on the day and now has 177 career hits, 27th most ever at Rider.

The third game of the series is Sunday at 12 noon.

The final series of the regular season is May 19-20 when Rider hosts Saint Peter's.  “We have four MAAC games left and if we win all four we have a chance to make the playoffs,” Davis said. “We are barely holding on but there is still a chance. That is what we will be playing for.”
