Box Score College Baseball
Campbell University 12, Rider University 3
BUIES CREEK, NC—The Broncs lost at Campbell Wednesday, splitting the two-game series. “We got the split, which is what we set out to do,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis.
Campbell had 14 hits. “They jumped on us pretty good,” Davis said. “Our pitchers only walked one, and that's a plus, but we didn't miss too many bats.”
For Rider (1-12) sophomore Teagan Piechnick (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) hit sacrifice flies in the sixth and eighth innings for the final score. “Piechnick was a plus tonight,” Davis said. Piechnick has four RBI in his last two games.
Rider freshman Richie Tecco (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner) hit an RBI double to get Rider on the board in the fifth inning. It was Tecco's first collegiate hit.
Campbell (8-10) scored five runs in the fourth inning on four hits and a Rider error to take a 10-0 lead.
Campbell scored four runs in the second inning on four hits and added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead. “We dropped a lined drive with bases loaded that very well could have been a double play,” Davis said. “Instead they score four.”
Rider junior Tyler Kaiser (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) doubled, while freshman Jack Finn (Ellicott City, MD/Calvert Hall), freshman Riley Mihalik (Churchville, PA/Chestnut Hill), sophomore Jake Bender (Ellicot, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and senior James Locklear (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) singled.
“Locklear's at bats were good,” Davis said. “Bender's at bats were good.”
The Broncs committed three errors. “We didn't help ourselves,” Davis said. “We gave them too many outs.”
The Broncs will travel to Lexington, Virginia to play a three game series at VMI. “We have our top three pitchers going so hopefully we'll do all right,” Davis said. “It will be tough. They are pretty good.”
