ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Rider University women's tennis team opened the spring 2016 season with a non-conference loss at Navy on Sunday.

“We played the best we could against a very highly rated opponent,” said head coach Doug Potkay.

For Rider, freshman Vanessa Canda (Jersey City/McNair Academic HS) won four games at first singles before losing 6-2, 6-2.

“Vanessa played a tough match against a strong opponent,” Potkay added.

The Bronc women travel to Lehigh University March 6.
