Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Game

The Rider University women's basketball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Monmouth University on Thursday evening.

Rider (7-21, 4-15 MAAC) was led by junior Robin Perkins (Willingboro/Trenton Catholic) who had 14 points before fouling out.

Rider led 10-7 on three pointers from freshman Lexi Posset (Pittsburgh, Pa./Beaver Area) and Perkins as the Broncs had the advantage 5:35 into the contest.

Monmouth (12-16, 10-9 MAAC) scored 25 of the next 31 points to take a 32-16 lead with 1:47 left in the second quarter.

“We had three starters with two fouls early and that got us out of sync, especially in the second quarter,” said head coach Lynn Milligan

Rider's bench was out-scored by the Hawks 39-7.

Sophomore Kamila Hoskova (Czech Republic) converted a three-point play with 55 seconds left in the second period for Rider's first points in six minutes and 27 seconds.

Hoskova finished with 14 points on 6-10 shooting.

Hoskova had 22 points on 9-13 against the Hawks when the teams met earlier this season.

Monmouth led 35-19 at the half.

Perkins hit a three-pointer to cut the Bronc deficit to 53-40 with 2:36 left in period three before the Hawks ended the period on an 8-2 run.

Leading 61-42 after 30 minutes and Monmouth maintained its lead throughout the fourth quarter.

Also for Rider, junior Julia Duggan (Marmora/Ocean City) had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Monmouth was led by 17 points from Jasmine McCall on 7-15 shooting with Jamiyah Bethune adding 15 points.  McCall had 19 points off the bench for the Hawks when the teams met in Lawrenceville.

The Hawks swept the season series after winning over the Broncs in Lawrenceville 87-75 on January 21.

Monmouth held a 46 percent (30-65) to 33 percent (22-67) shooting advantage.

Tonight was the 42nd meeting between the former Northeast Conference and current MAAC rivals with the Hawks leading 28-13.

Monmouth has won five of six and six of its last eight games.

The Broncs have lost two straight.

Rider completes the regular season at Manhattan on Sunday at 2pm.

The MAAC tournament is March 3-7 in Albany, New York at the Times Union Center.
