LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Rider University women's volleyball team defeated Saint Peter's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Saturday in Alumni Gymnasium.

Rider (15-13, 9-7 MAAC) won the match in straight sets.

The Broncs won the first set 25-18, the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-17.

Although every match is a challenge, the Broncs were able to use more of their bench on Saturday.  “It is important that athletes that come in everyday, work hard and train get the opportunities to showcase their abilities,” said Rider head coach Chris Feliciano. “We were afforded that opportunity today.”

The Broncs were led by freshman Evelyn Shanefield (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby), who had a team high seven points with five kills, a block, two block assists, a dig and an assist. “Evelyn is going to be a major contributor in the future,” Feliciano said. “We got a chance to see that today.'

Rider junior Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) had 11 digs and now ranks second all-time in career digs at Rider with 1,584. “That is a really important accomplishment,” Feliciano said.

Aldaya has been named the MAAC Libero of the Week three times this season.

Senior Ryan Ackermann (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) added six points with six kills and 15 digs and junior Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, PA/Padua Academy) played just two sets but compiled 6.5 points with six kills, hitting at a .429 percentage, along with eight digs.

Sophomore Hailey Riede (Haworth/Northern Valley-Demarest) had six kills, hitting at a .500 percentage, contributing six points. Riede is fourth in the MAAC in hitting percentage and 10th in kills.

Junior Veronica Koval (Allentown, PA/Parkland), had 18 assists in just two sets. “Veronica did a really nice job today,” Feliciano said.  Koval leads the MAAC in service aces and is third in the conference in assists.

The Broncs are now 7-2 in Alumni Gym this season with two matches remaining, both at home. “I love being home,” Feliciano said.  “It's fun.”

The Peacocks (0-20, 0-15 MAAC) are still looking for their first win of the season.

Rider also won 3-0 at Saint Peter's on October 1.

Saturday's match was the 14th straight time the Broncs defeated the Peacocks.

The Broncs host Siena November 12 (4pm) and Marist November 13 (1pm), Senior Day, in the final matches of the regular season.
