Athletes of the Month
Swimming's Carey, Cross Country's McGarrity
LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Justin Carey from the swimming & diving team and Megan McGarrity from the cross country team are the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in October.
McGarrity (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil's Academy) finished second overall at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship race, the highest finish ever by a Rider runner, men or women.
Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) was twice named the MAAC Swimmer of the Week in October.
In Rider's win at Lehigh Carey won the 100 backstroke, the 200 backstroke and the 100 butterfly. His time of 49.47 in the 100 back set a Lehigh pool record and was the 36th fastest time in Division I this year.
In Rider's victory over MAAC rival Marist, Carey won the 100 backstroke, the 200 backstroke, the 100 butterfly and swam on the winning 200 medley relay.
In Rider's victory over MAAC rival Fairfield Carey won the 200 backstroke and the 800 freestyle and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.
McGarrity finished first among Broncs in every cross country race this fall. At the prestigious Paul Short Run she recorded the second fastest time ever by a Bronc on the Lehigh course, finishing 10th of 287 runners.
At the Princeton Invitational she placed 10th of 215 runners.
In September McGarrity won both the TCNJ Blue Gold Classic and the Rider Invitational.
