Marist College 3, Rider University 1
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—It is not how well you start it is how well you finish.
The Broncs found that out the hard way Saturday afternoon.
The Broncs won the first set but lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Marist.
The Broncs won the first set 25-16 before Marist won three straight, 25-21, 27-25 and 25-19.
“I thought we played really well today,” said Rider head coach Chris Feliciano. “We had two set points in set three that we just couldn't score. Good effort doesn't always win a match.”
For Rider (8-11, 2-5 MAAC) freshman Devyn Holland (Corona, CA/Santiago) compiled 32 assists and senior Ryan Ackermann (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) added nine kills and 12 digs. “Devyn had a great match,” Feliciano said. “Ryan played well offensively.”
Also for the Broncs senior Kaitlyn Griffin (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) compiled seven kills and three blocks while sophomore Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin) contributed nine kills and 10 digs.
“The team was engaged and followed the game plan to a tee,” Feliciano said.
Last year Rider also lost 3-1 at Marist and defeated the Red Foxes 3-1 in Lawrenceville.
Marist (6-11, 6-1 MAAC) leads the all-time series 25-15. “They are in second place in the conference,” Feliciano said.
The Broncs play a MAAC match at Siena Sunday at 1pm. “We just need to turn around and rebound and try to go get tomorrow's match at Siena,” Feliciano said.
