HAMDEN, CT—The Rider University tennis teams lost a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches to Quinnipiac 7-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

“Both teams played hard, but we lost to a very strong team,” said head coach Doug Potkay.

For the Rider women, freshman Cyd Melendez (Cayey, PR/ Colegio Le Merced) lost 6-4, 6-2 on second singles against Jennifer Lu of Quinnipiac. “Cyd played extremely well coming back from injury,” Potkay remarked. “She had her chances in the first set.”

Highlighting the men's slate was sophomore Ryan Ciaccio (Mercerville/Hamilton North (Nottingham)), who lost his match at sixth singles 6-1, 6-4 to Ryoma Haraguchi of the Bobcats. “Ryan played a very smart match and kept his opponent off balance.”

Both Rider squads come back home on Monday, October 10 when they host Fairfield in another dual set of MAAC matches, beginning at 3:00.
