NSCAA announces 2015-2016 College Team Academic Award Winners

Both Rider Men and Women Honored

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (October 6, 2016) - A total of 893 soccer teams (315 men, 578 women) from throughout the United States have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year.

Among these programs are 223 schools receiving honors for both their men and women's teams.

“Congratulations to both of our soccer teams for this prestigious honor,” said Rider associate athletic director Greg Busch, who oversees both soccer programs as well as NCAA Compliance and Academic Support.

Rider University is one of the 223 institutions that both the men's and women's teams were honored.

The Rider men, with a 3.31 team grade point average, were 23rd highest among NCAA Division I teams. The Rider men (8-3-2, 2-1-2 MAAC), the 2015 MAAC Champions, are currently ranked second in the Northeast Region and among the top 25 in the nation in RPI.

The Rider women, with a 3.47 team grade point average, were 42nd in GPA among NCAA Division I teams. The Rider women (8-3-3, 5-3-1 MAAC), the 2014 MAAC Champions, are currently in second place in the MAAC.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
