BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y.—The Rider University volleyball team lost on the final day of the St. Francis Terrier Invitational Saturday afternoon to NJIT.

Rider (3-4) lost to the Highlanders 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-21.

“We played streaky,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano.  “From the beginning of the match, we made a ton of unforced errors.  We recovered in set three but reverted right back in set four.”

For the Broncs, junior Kaitlyn Griffin (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) had 14 kills and six blocks while attacking .360 and was named to the all-tournament team.

Griffin hit .329 for the three matches and averaged 3.25 kills per set while adding 11 blocks in the tournament.

“We had some positives today,” Feliciano said.  “But we need to do a better job of making up for mistakes as a team.  This is a loss that we can learn from and get better.  That's the benefit of playing in these tournaments.”

Senior setter Brandie Hill (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) and sophomore setter Veronica Koval (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) each had 16 assists with Hill adding 11 digs.

This marks the first time in three matches that Rider has lost to NJIT.  The teams met in 2014 with the Broncs winning 3-0 in Alumni Gym.  The teams met in this tournament in 2013 when Rider also posted a 3-0 win enroute to the tournament title.

Rider hosts Iona College in the home opener on Wednesday, September 9 with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match beginning at 7pm.
