LAWRENCEVILLE—Freshman Vanessa Canda (Jersey City/McNair Academic HS) teamed up with fellow rookie Caitlin Gardner (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) for a 7-6 (10-4) victory at first doubles but it wasn't enough in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss to Marist College on Wednesday.

“Vanessa played a very hard fought singles match against Marist's top player before losing 6-3, 6-3,” said head coach Doug Potkay.

“Vanessa and Caitlin defeated the number one doubles team which included Pang, the MAAC Player of the Year,” Potkay said. “Caitlin played aggressively at the net, hitting volley winners for game points.”

The Rider men are back in action on Saturday against St. Thomas Aquinas and the women return to the court October 2-4 at the Lehigh Fall Invitational.
