Rider in Liberty Bell Classic Title Game Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Rider University baseball team is laughing all the way to the bank. Citizen's Bank Park, that is, home of the MLB Philadelphia Phillies.

Rider will play 7:30 Wednesday night at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia in the Liberty Bell Classic Championship Game.

“The experience of playing in a major league ballpark will be fun, something the players will remember for the rest of their lives,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis.  “We certainly want to play well and win. Hopefully we'll do that.”

Rider (13-15, 5-1 MAAC) beat Lehigh and La Salle in the first two rounds and will now play Villanova in the Title Game. “The tournament was something we envisioned would be important in the middle of the week, to play a (non-conference) game with something riding on it,” Davis said.  “We've done that and we will be rewarded by playing Villanova.”

Villanova (13-17, 1-2 BIG EAST) beat Lafayette and Penn to reach the Title Game

The Broncs are led by All-MAAC first baseball Justin Thomas (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South), who is batting .306 with 33 hits and 15 RBI.

“I'm excited about playing there,” said Thomas, the MAAC Player of the Week the first week of April. “The whole team is excited about it. It is going to be a good night.”

Rider will be in the third base dugout and tickets ($5) are available at the WEST ticketing window at the park. Parking is free in the Phillies' “S” lot located on Pattison Avenue, across from X-Finity Live.

The game was rained out on Tuesday and will now be held Wednesday. Wednesday's game at Wagner has been cancelled.

Rider returns to MAAC play this weekend when the Broncs travel to Poughkeepsie, NY to play a three-game series at Marist Saturday and Sunday.
