Zack Molloy Honored Again by the MAAC

EDISON—For the sixth time this season, the Rider University men's swimming and diving team has had a student-athlete honored by the conference and for the third time this year, it is Zack Molloy that has earned the recognition.

Molloy, a sophomore from Toms River, New Jersey (Toms River HS North) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Male Swimmer of the Week it was announced on Wednesday.

Molloy was recognized for all competition November 30-December 6.

"Zack continues to roll with fast swims," said head coach Steve Fletcher.  "He represented Rider well this past weekend at Princeton."

At the prestigious Big Al Open hosted by Princeton University December 4-6, Molloy won the 500 free (4:24.79), placed fifth in the 200 free (1:38.76) and finished 10th in the 1650 free (15:45.98).

Molloy also swam on three relays, the 800 free relay that placed fourth (6:41.53) with Molloy swimming the third leg in 1:38.93, the 400 free relay anchor leg (45.33) that was fifth (3:02.76) and he led off the 400 medley relay (51.28) that placed eighth (3:21.91). 

Overall, Molloy helped Rider to a fifth place team finish.

Molloy was also honored by the MAAC on October 14 and November 11, helping the Rider men to a 6-0 start to the dual meet season while breaking four Coppola Pool records, the 100 free, the 500 free, the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.

As a team, Rider is ranked in the mid-major Top 25 by collegeswimming.com.

A two-time USA National qualifier, Molloy set Rider and conference records in winning MAAC gold in the 200 free (1:37.19) and 500 free (4:22.74) at the 2015 MAAC Championships and was runner-up in the 100 free (45.54) as Rider won the MAAC Title for the fourth year in a row.  Molloy is the Rider record holder in the 1650 free (15:28.11) which came at the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.  Molloy also owns the Rider record in the 1000 free (9:18.46) and was on the winning 800 free relay that set a MAAC and Rider record (6:38.65).

Also recognized this season for Rider by the MAAC were junior Matthan-Matthew Martir on November 11, freshman diver Joseph Warker on October 14 and senior diver Wayco Bailey on October 21.

After a break for final exams and the annual winter training trip to Puerto Rico, the Broncs return to action on January 15 in a dual meet at Seton Hall University.
