CLARION, PA-- Competing without two of their top wrestlers, an All-American and a two-time conference champion, the Broncs lost an Eastern Wrestling League dual meet at Clarion Sunday.
“You have to go with who you have,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "Give Clarion credit. They have some good wrestlers who wrestled hard."
For Rider (2-2, 0-1 EWL) sophomore Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) won by fall. “Chad wrestled very hard and got us some important points,” Taylor said. “Unfortunately it was not enough.”
Rider senior Conor Brennan (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) and sophomore Michale Fagg-Daves (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) also won.
Clarion (3-4, 2-1 EWL) jumped out to a 15-0 lead.
The Broncs defeated Clarion 38-3 at Rider last season.
Rider and Clarion have now met 17 times since the series began in 1997-98, with Rider with 14.
Rider hosts Lehigh (11am) and Northwestern (2pm) December 5. “Hopefully we will be a bit healthier by then,” Taylor said. “They are two very strong teams so we'll need everyone to compete hard.”
