Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
WEST LONG BRANCH—The Rider University women's tennis team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Monmouth University on Wednesday afternoon.
For Rider, freshman Caitlin Gardner (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) won her first collegiate match, recording a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 victory at second singles.
“Caitlin played from behind 3-0 in the opening set,” said head coach Doug Potkay. “She played aggressive and put pressure on her opponent. She avenged a loss to her at the Lehigh Invitational earlier this season.”
Also for the Broncs, sophomore Aleesha Rouse (Windham, Conn./Windham) won 10 games but lost 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) at fifth singles.
“Aleesha played a very steady game,” Potkay said. “She hit lobs and passing shots. She was ahead 5-4 in the second and serving. Trailing 6-5, she battled back to force the tiebreaker.”
The Rider men travel to Drexel on October 17 and both the men's and women's teams host Mount St. Mary's on October 19.
