LAWRENCEVILLE—Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a non-conference match to Hofstra University on Sunday afternoon in Lawrenceville.
“We lost to an experienced and well coached team,” said Rider head coach Doug Potkay.
For the Rider (0-2) women, senior Leonora Paul (Hackensack) improved to 1-1 on the season with a 7-5, 1-6, 10-7 win at fifth singles.
“Leonora played a smart match today,” Potkay said. “She came in with a good game plan and defeated a very good player. She changed pace, kept the ball out of her opponents hitting zone and was able to lob when she came to the net.”
For the Rider (0-2) men, freshman Jeremy Van Herwarde (Sussex/Pope John XXIII) won five games at third singles before losing 7-5, 6-0 and sophomore Adam Levi (Princeton Junction/Pennington School) also won five games at fifth singles before also losing 7-5, 6-0.
The Bronc women host Philadelphia University September 30 at 3:00pm. Both teams are tentatively scheduled to face Niagara University in Western, New York on October 4, however impending weather may force the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to be rescheduled.
