Rider's Richter NCAA Stolen Base King

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--Junior Nick Richter (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove) of the Rider University baseball team has finished first in the NCAA Division I in both stolen bases and stolen bases per game.

The first-year Bronc, who was named Second Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and to the All-New Jersey Division I Second Team, compiled 41 stolen bases in 49 games.

“To lead a category is difficult to do and we are proud of Nick and his accomplishment,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis.  “Nick had a tremendous season.”

The Rider team MVP, Richter broke the Rider record of stolen bases in a season (40) that stood since 1967.

Richter batted .321 as the Rider leadoff batter and third baseman, with 61 hits and 41 runs scored.  He also hit 11 doubles and had 20 walks. His on base percentage was a team-high .420.

Richter was fourth in the MAAC in runs scored.

In the all-important MAAC games, Richter batted a team-high .356.

Richter was also a member of the MAAC All-Academic team.

In 2013 at McHenry County College he was second in the nation (NJCAA) with 55 stolen bases.

Richter becomes the sixth Rider Bronc to lead the nation in a statistical category in the last 26 years. Ken Kremer led the nation in batting average in 1988.  Since then, field hockey goalie Rebecca Lotito led the nation in goals against average in 2010, volleyball player Evette Hoeffner led the nation in digs in both 2001 and 2002 and softball slugger Deanna Dovak led the nation in home runs per game in 2001.
