NJIT 5, Rider University 1 (10 inn.)

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—The Broncs managed just two hits in a loss to the New Jersey Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon in the home opener. “Right now we are just struggling at the plate,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis.

NJIT scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning on three hits, a walk and an error.

Rider (5-15) manufactured a run in the fourth inning when senior Nick Crescenzo (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) reached base on a fielder's choice, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch, tying the score at 1-1.

NJIT (6-7) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a single, a walk, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI ground out.

Rider senior Kyle Kennett (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) started and went six and a third innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three. “Kennett threw well,” Davis said.

For Rider, junior Nick Richter (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove) and junior Mike Parsons (Liverpool, NY) had singles.

The Highlanders had eight hits off of four Rider pitchers.

Rider travels to Rutgers Wednesday.
