Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

RIVERDALE, N.Y.—The Manhattan College Jaspers avenged a loss to the Rider University volleyball team earlier this season and snapped the Broncs' four-match winning streak with a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match in New York.

The Jaspers won 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.

“Manhattan played more disciplined on defense and we didn't execute our game plan,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano.  “We lacked that extra push that we needed at key moments of the match.”

For Rider (16-12, 9-5 MAAC), senior Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) had 16 assists and 13 digs with sophomore Kaitlyn Griffin (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) adding 11 kills and four blocks.

Freshman Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) also had 13 digs for the Broncs with freshman Veronica Koval (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) adding 12 assists and four digs.

Rider was out-hit .203 to .097 and the Broncs were held to only 34 kills.

On October 8, Rider defeated the Jaspers in five sets, winning 25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11.  This is the third season in a row that the teams have split the two MAAC matches.  Last season, Rider defeated Manhattan 3-2 in Riverdale, New York before losing to the Jaspers 3-1 in Lawrenceville.  The teams also split two MAAC matches in 2012, with the Broncs winning at home 3-2.

Rider travels to Saint Peter's for a MAAC match on Saturday.

“We have to get back to work and do a better job and play a more consistent match,” Feliciano added.
