Iona College 3, Rider University 2
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—The Rider University volleyball team surrendered a two sets to none lead on Wednesday evening and lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Iona College 3-2 in New Rochelle.
The Broncs lost 25-18, 25-22, 13-25, 13-25, 10-15.
"We took our foot off the gas and let Iona back into the match," said head coach Christopher Feliciano. "It was upsetting to watch, especially after we opened up so strong."
For Rider (17-13, 10-6 MAAC), senior Kayla Wong (Tustin, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) had 14 kills and attacked .250 with freshman Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) adding 18 digs.
Both setters, senior Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) (29) and freshman Veronica Koval (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) (22) had over 20 assists.
Iona avenged a 3-2 loss to Rider in Lawrenceville on October 5.
Rider hosts Siena on Saturday and Marist on Sunday in a pair of MAAC matches, both beginning at 1pm, the final home matches of the 2014 regular season. All 10 teams advance to the MAAC Championships in Florida at Disney's Wide World of Sports November 20-23.
