Rider Home Wednesday Night
LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University volleyball team looks to win its seventh match in a row when the Broncs host the Hornets of Delaware State University at 7:00pm in Alumni Gymnasium Wednesday night.
Rider (10-7, 5-0 MAAC) is coming off back to back conference thrillers, both 3-2 wins this past weekend against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rivals Manhattan and Iona.
The Broncs have been led by the strong play of freshman Emma Aldaya.
A 5-2 defensive specialist from Prospect Park, Pennsylvania (Merion Mercy Academy), Aldaya helped Rider improve to 5-0 in the MAAC for the first time ever by averaging an even 6.00 digs per set
Against the Jaspers, Aldaya had 24 digs and against Iona, she compiled 36 digs as Rider rallied from a 2-1 deficit. Aldaya had six digs in the fourth set and eight digs in the fifth and deciding set and also had three service aces against Iona.
For her efforts, she was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
Rider has also been led by sophomore Kaitlyn Griffin (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) who is averaging 3.02 kills per set and senior Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon)who has averaged 3.32 digs per set.
Webber is on the cusp of two milestones as she enters the match Wednesday night with 993 career digs and 961 kills.
Rider and Delaware State last met on October 23, 2013 also in Lawrenceville when the Broncs won 3-0 over the Hornets, improving to 5-0 all-time against Delaware State.
Rider and DSU met on October 25, 2012, when the Broncs won 3-1, including three 25-23 sets in a row after losing the opening set 25-10 to the Hornets.
Rider enters the match Wednesday 4-0 in Alumni Gym this season.
