Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
HAMDEN, Conn.—The Rider University volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory at Quinnipiac University on Sunday afternoon.
“This is a good win for us,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano. “We've lost some tough ones in the past couple of weeks so wining today is a great building block for our upcoming matches.”
Rider (13-11, 7-4 MAAC) defeated Quinnipiac (2-23, 0-13 MAAC) 25-17, 25-23, 22-25 and trailing 19-16, used a late 7-0 rally to win set four 25-20 to clinch the match.
“We let our emotions get the best of us after we let Quinnipiac back in the match,” Feliciano said about the fourth set. “I used my second timeout and the team came out poised and determined.”
For the Broncs, senior Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) attacked .464 and led Rider with 13 kills while adding six digs.
Freshman Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, Pa./Padua Academy) had 11 kills, four digs and three blocks and senior Kayla Wong (Tustin, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) added nine kills.
For the setters, senior Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) and freshman Veronica Koval (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) each had 21 assists with Koval adding nine digs. Amatulli now has 2,555 career assists, third-best all-time at Rider.
Freshman Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) led the Broncs with 11 digs.
The Broncs out-hit the Bobcats .281 to .168.
Rider and Quinnipiac last met on October 12 when the Broncs won 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20) in Lawrenceville.
This is Rider's fourth win in nine matches against the Bobcats. The teams split two matches in 2013, with each team winning on their home court.
Rider faces NJIT in a non-conference match at 7pm Wednesday.
