FLUSHING, N.Y.—The Rider University women's tennis team picked up its first win of the fall season with a 7-0 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon.

“The women have been training hard all season,” said head coach Doug Potkay.  “I'm excited that they picked up the win.”

For Rider (1-7), senior Alison Noll (Monmouth Junction/South Brunswick) won her sixth match in a row, a straight set victory at first singles to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Senior Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold) won her third match in a row, posting a straight set win at second singles and freshman Danielle Scrudato (Califon/Voorhees) also won for the third time this season with a straight set win at third singles.

Sophomore Kerrin Toner (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) won at fourth singles, sophomore Leonora Paul (Hackensack) was victorious at fifth singles and freshman Montana Morris (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) won in straight sets at sixth singles.

“Kerrin and Montana, they stuck to their game plan and moved their opponents around,” Potkay said.  “They played with a lot of confidence today.”

Noll and Caravaglio teamed up for the win at first doubles, improving to 6-1 on the season.

Toner and Scrudato improved to 3-3 with a win at second doubles and Paul and Morris won their second straight doubles match with an 8-0 victory at third doubles.

The match was played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.

Both the Rider men's and women's tennis teams travel to Philadelphia to face Drexel University on Sunday.
