Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.—The Rider University volleyball team lost its second match in a row, falling to Siena College 3-0 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon.
The Saints marched over the Broncs 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16.
“The effort today was extremely poor,” said head coach Christopher Feliciano who had seen his team open with six conference wins out of seven matches before the weekend. “We need to play with more confidence and more as a team and family.”
For Rider (12-10, 6-3 MAAC), senior Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) had 13 assists, freshman Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) had 10 digs, and freshman Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, Pa./Padua Academy) compiled eight kills.
Senior Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) finished with six kills and now needs four more to hit the 1,000 kill milestone. Earlier this season, Webber reached the 1,000 point and 1,000 dig plateau.
Rider was out-hit .424 to .153.
The teams meet again November 15 at Rider.
Siena swept Rider in 2013, winning 3-0 and 3-1. Siena defeated Rider 3-1 and 3-2 in 2012 and the Saints swept the Broncs in two matches in 2011, 3-1 in Lawrenceville and 3-0 in Loudonville. Siena swept Rider 3-0 and 3-1 in the two MAAC matches in 2010 and the Saints also posted 3-0 and 3-1 wins over the Broncs in 2009. Siena has won 25 of the 28 matches in the series with the last Rider win during the 2004 season.
Rider travels to Connecticut for a pair of MAAC matches, at Fairfield University on October 25 and at Quinnipiac University October 26. The Broncs lost to the Stags on October 11 (3-0) before defeating the Bobcats, 3-0 on October 12.
“We need to step up next weekend and for the rest of the season,” Feliciano added. “We need to do what we are capable of doing.”
