Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept in the 2013 season opener, Wednesday afternoon at Fairfield.
Both teams lost the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match 7-0.
“Fairfield was the conference runner-up last season,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They showed why today. They are a strong team and we were playing with a lot of new faces in the lineup.”
For the Rider women, freshman Alison Noll (Monmouth Junction) took three games at first singles before losing 6-4, 6-2. She teamed up with freshman Kerrin Toner (West Babylon, N.Y.) to battle at first doubles before losing 8-5.
“Alison played an excellent match,” Torres said. “She played well in both singles and doubles. It was a very solid effort, especially in her first collegiate match against a strong player.”
For the Bronc men, senior Nick Lubold (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) won three games at third singles before losing 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Sean Sweeney (Franklinville/Delsea Regional) and senior Kyle Stratton (Stratford/Sterling) won three games at third doubles before falling 8-3.
The Rider women host Manhattan in a MAAC match Saturday.
