Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University volleyball team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Canisius College on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Gymnasium.
The Golden Griffins won 25-18, 25-15, 25-16.
"We didn't play consistent," said assistant coach Melissa Baccari. "We played well in the opening set and then things kind of fell apart."
For Rider (11-12, 4-9 MAAC), sophomore Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) had 24 assists with senior Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) compiling 14 digs.
Also for the Broncs, sophomore Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) compiled 10 digs and seven kills with freshman Nicole Moorman (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area HS) adding eight kills, three blocks and two digs while hitting .300.
"Nicole has a good match," Baccari added. "She played well."
Canisius (13-10, 10-3 MAAC) out-hit Rider .269 to .112.
"Canisius came out ready to play," Baccari said. "We didn't execute our game plan throughout the whole match. They are a playoff team for a reason and are one of the top teams in the conference. We have the ability to push the match to four or five sets and be at least a little more competitive and we didn't do that."
Rider hosts Niagara on Sunday in a MAAC match beginning at 1pm.
"We expect Niagara to come in and be ready to play," Baccari said about the three-time defending MAAC champion Purple Eagles. "We need to follow the game plan and play with more consistency."
