Temple University 3, Rider University 0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--The Rider University volleyball didn't find so much brotherly love in Philadelphia Wednesday as the Temple Owls defeated the Broncs 3-0.
Temple won 25-18, 25-16, 25-21.
"It was a struggle tonight," said head coach Christopher Feliciano. "We couldn't get anything going. Temple served us tough and we couldn't get our middles involved. We became very one dimensional tonight."
For Rider (2-5), freshman Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) had 12 assists and five digs with freshman Rachel Jensen (Buena Park, Calif./Troy) adding four blocks.
The Broncs were out-hit .245 to .111 and the Owls held a 42-24 kill advantage.
Rider lost to Temple 3-0 in Lawrenceville on September 8, 2010 (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) and the Owls have defeated Rider all nine times that the teams have faced each other since the series started in 1987.
The match was seen by 1,253 fans as the Temple Department of Athletics gave away football tickets vs. Penn State to those in attendance.
Rider travels to Lynchburg, Virginia to face Liberty, CSU-Bakersfield and Saint Francis (Pa.) in the Liberty Invitational September 9-10.
After the tournament this weekend, the Broncs return home to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with three straight MAAC matches, starting on September 13 at 6pm vs. Saint Peter's in Alumni Gymnasium.
"Even though we are a young tem, we are kind of tired of having 'learning experiences'," Feliciano added. "Even though it is a process, I expect and the players expect a better effort and we only got that in the third set and not sets one and two."
