PHILADELPHIA, PA-The Broncs fell to the La Salle Explorers Sunday afternoon. "It was pretty disastrous today," said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.
La Salle (2-0-1) scored on its first two shots of the game in the first 12 minutes. "We put ourselves in a hole very early in the game and we couldn't get anything going," Hounsome said.
The Explorers made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute of play and La Salle scored its final goal in the 61st minute. "We get the tougher teams on the schedule for a reason," Hounsome said. "La Salle is a good team and playing them shows us the areas we need to work on."
La Salle out-shot Rider (2-2-1) 11-8, including 7-3 in the first half. The Explorers had seven shots on goal. Rider did not have any shots on goal.
The Explorers began the season with a 2-0 win over Delaware and a 0-0 tie with cross-town rival Drexel. "La Salle is a good team with very talented players and we made them look very good," Hounsome said. "After our game Friday night we didn't look ready to play today. There was a fatigue factor."
The Broncs played La Salle in Rider's first three years on the varsity level, 1997, 1998 and 1999, losing all three contests to the Explorers.
Rider travels to Washington, D.C. to play Howard Tuesday evening. "Conference play is Friday-Sunday," Hounsome said, "and we need to learn how to grind out a win in that second game. We didn't do that today so we have another chance to do that Tuesday."
The game at Howard was originally scheduled for August 28 but was postponed due to Hurricane Irene.
