Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

JERSEY CITY--The Rider University volleyball team defeated Saint Peter's College 3-0 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Saturday afternoon.

The Broncs won 25-15, 25-13, 25-22.

"The match went well," said head coach Christopher Feliciano.  "We were able to get our middles involved, both on the outside and the right side and overall, it was a very satisfying effort."

For Rider (4-11, 2-2 MAAC), freshman Jaclyn Webber (Anaheim, Calif./Canyon) had 19 kills and seven digs, accounting for 21 of Rider's 61 offensive points.

Also for the Broncs, freshman Ashlee Amatulli (Menifee, Calif./Temecula Valley) had 22 assists, seven digs and five service aces, sophomore Meghan Bartsch (Cranford) had 16 assists and junior co-captain Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central Regional) had 15 digs.

"I need to know that I have multiple options when faced with certain situations," Feliciano said.  "Today gave me valuable information as to who I can use when.  Getting everyone involved is important as we grow as a team and we gained valuable experience today."

Rider out-hit Saint Peter's (0-14, 0-3 MAAC) .419 to .176.

The Broncs snapped a three-match losing streak and defeated the Peahens for the third time this season.  Rider won a home conference match against the Peahens 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-13) on September 13 and defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19) on September 3 at the Lafayette Invitational.

"It is hard to defeat a team three times," Feliciano added.  "I was impressed with how Saint Peter's made adjustments from the last time we played them.  They actually led 10-8 in the opening set and we were forced to use a time out and make some adjustments on the fly.  Their coaching staff did a nice job and they did a phenomenal job preparing for the match today."

In the opening set, led by four kills from Webber, Rider turned the 10-8 deficit into a 20-11 lead with a 12-1 run.  Two more kills by Webber allowed the Broncs to push to the 10 point set win.

Leading 7-6 in the second set, two kills by junior co-captain Stephanie Nagy (Muscatine, Iowa/Muscatine) propelled the Broncs on a 9-5 run and leading 16-11, the Broncs finished the set, winning nine of the final 11 points to go up 2-0.  Nagy had eight kills for Rider
on Saturday, hitting .583.

Rider led set three wire to wire but it was a battle until three Webber kills and two kills by sophomore Bridget Sheerin (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) took an 18-17 Rider lead out to a 25-22 set win to clinch the match.  Sheerin finished with eight kills and hit .636 on the day.

The Broncs won two of three matches with Saint Peter's last season, including a 3-1 win in the MAAC Championship tournament and Rider has won 17 of the 37 matches all-time in the series.

The Broncs travel to Riverdale, New York to face Manhattan in a MAAC match on Sunday at 2pm.

"We have to do our jobs and play consistently against the Jaspers on Sunday," Feliciano said.  "We've prepared; we've watched a lot of video and we can't allow them to go on any long rallies."
