White Wins at Third Singles
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Rider University women's tennis team lost in a home match against Lafayette Wednesday afternoon.
For the Bronc women, junior Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) won at third singles by retirement. She was down one set to none, but up in the second set before her opponent had to retire.
Being down too starters in the lineup, put the Broncs at a disadvantage and was too high of a task to overcome.
"We were missing two starting players in the match," said head coach Ed Torres. "Our number one and number five didn't play. We had to put two subs in and it put the whole lineup in disarray."
Rider will play a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match hosting Fairfield Friday, weather permitting. Fairfield is coming off of great seasons on both sides, women winning the MAAC and the men finishing runner up.
"We are going to play Fairfield Friday," Torres said. "They are a very, very good team. Their women won the MAAC last year and the men came in second. They are among the premiere teams in the conference. We should be able to do better then today because we will have our full team."
