Rider Hosts Princeton, Wisconsin

LAWRENCEVILLE-The 2011-12 Rider wrestling team will host the Tigers of Princeton and the Badgers of Wisconsin in a tri-meet Friday.

Rider takes on Princeton at 3pm, the Tigers will compete against Wisconsin at 5pm and Rider will take on the Badgers at 7pm.

"They are both good teams," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  "We're going to have to put it together and wrestle very well."

All three matches can be seen on BroncVision at www.GoBroncs.com.

Rider began the season with a victory at Army and had four place winners at the Binghamton Open.

The Broncs are led by junior Jim Resnick (Media, Pa./Penncrest), who is ranked 12th in the nation at 174. Resnick recently won his weight class at the Binghamton Open. Last year Resnick won two matches at Nationals.

Rider also has junior Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco), who is ranked 17th at 149, but Cibula did not wrestle at Binghamton due to an injury. Cibula was the Colonial Athletic Association Championships' Most Outstanding Wrestler last season.

Other Broncs who have gotten off to a good start this year are freshman Donald McNeil (Plainville, Mass./Wyoming Seminary), senior Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville, N.J./Somerville), sophomore Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville), freshman Vinny Fava (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park) and sophomore heavyweight Evan Craig (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights).

McNeil began his collegiate career 5-2 and placed fifth at Binghamton.

Kirchner placed sixth at Binghamton at 141, and Santiago placed sixth at Binghamton.

Fava began the year 4-2 at 133, as did Evan Craig.

Wisconsin graduated four All-Americans but the Badgers return junior Ben Jordan, who is ranked 14th at 165 and junior Cole Schmidt, who is ranked 16th at 149.

"Hosting a Big 10 school is great for our University, wrestling program and local community,"  Taylor said. "It is also very important for our individual athletes to see where they stand with some of the best wrestlers in the country."

Princeton juniors Garrett Frey (125) and Zach Bintliff (149), sophomores Adam Krop (141), Brandon Rolnick (165) and Ryan Callahan (184), and freshman Chris Perez each earned a top-six finish at the Binghamton Open. Frey took third at his weight class, winning five of six matches and is ranked 20th in the nation.
