LAWRENCEVILLE--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost a non-conference match to Drexel University Tuesday afternoon in Lawrenceville.

"When you play a team that is clearly superior to you in every slot, there is not much you can do but play your hardest and hope you win a few games," said head coach Ed Torres.  "We did that but Drexel was clearly more experienced and it was even tough to win just a few games."

For the Rider women, freshman Michelle Caravaglio (Manalapan/Freehold) won two games at second singles before losing 6-2, 6-0.

For the Rider men, junior John Spellman (Toms River/Toms River HS South) won three games at second singles before losing 6-0, 6-3.

Drexel defeated the Bronc women's team 6-1 last fall.  The Dragons defeated the Rider men 7-0 last fall.

This was the final match of the season for the Rider (3-7) women's team.

"The women's team is playing better than last year, just with the addition of Michelle (Caravaglio)," said Torres.  You get a few more like her and maybe you win two or three more matches.  But overall, they did play better tennis and improved."  Caravaglio was 4-6 this fall, 4-4 at third singles and also picked up three wins in doubles competition.

The Rider men's team faces Rutgers Camden on Friday at 3pm on the Lawrenceville campus courts in their final match of the fall season.
