BRONX, N.Y.--The Rider University volleyball team lost twice Saturday on the final day of Fordham's Rose Hill Classic.

Undefeated Syracuse (12-0) blitzed the Broncs in only 54 minutes, scoring a straight set 25-16, 25-11, 25-16 win with the host Rams of Fordham (7-4) defeating Rider 25-11, 25-16, 25-21.

Freshman Megan Knott (West Caldwell/James Caldwell) had nine kills, three digs and three blocks for the Broncs against Fordham and was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 2.15 kills per set in the four matches.

"Meg is starting to come out of her shell and is taking over matches," said head coach Emily Ahlquist.  "She is coming into her own and was a go to person this weekend."

Against the Orange, senior Amanda Piccolini (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) had 14 assists with senior Elyse Grassmuck (San Antonio, Texas/La Vernia) adding nine assists.

Syracuse out-hit Rider .427 to .125.  The Orange are now 2-1 all-time against Rider.

Against the Rams, Piccolini had 14 assists with Grassmuck adding 11.

Fordham out-hit Rider .325 to .065.  This was Fordham's fourth win in 12 matches all-time against the Broncs.

Rider (1-8) went 0-4 in the tournament and have now lost seven in a row after a 1-1 start to the season.

"We had an effective non-conference schedule, learning about our different lineups and what combinations will work," Ahlquist said about finishing the non-MAAC portion of the 2010 schedule.

The Broncs open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a home match against Manhattan on September 18 at 2:00pm in Alumni Gym.

"We are excited about the start of conference play and also to return home," said Ahlquist.  "We've been on the road for eight of the nine matches.  We'll be able to utilize a lot of different looks because of our non-conference play."
