Women's College Tennis
Rider University 6, La Salle University 1
LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University women's tennis team won for the first time this spring with a dominating 6-1 victory over La Salle University on Thursday afternoon.
"The tough matches we have been playing paid off today," said head coach Ed Torres. "We played a team that was about our equal experience wise and we won in dominating fashion."
For Rider (1-4), senior Kristina Paich (Stanhope/Lenape Valley Regional) won in straight sets at first singles, with freshman Marly Roche (Sussex/High Point Regional) also scoring a straight set win at second singles.
Sophomore Tricia Ashmore (Sparta) won in three sets at third singles, freshman Alexa Manforti (Toms River/Toms River HS South) won in straight sets at fifth singles with sophomore Danielle White (Reading, Pa./Reading) winning at sixth singles in straight sets.
Paich and Manforti teamed up for an 8-5 win at first doubles with Roche and Ashmore winning at second doubles 8-3.
"Everyone played steady and had a limited amount of errors," Torres added. "We used the experience of playing all of the teams in the MAAC and learned from those experiences and that effort led to today's win. The team played well."
The women are back on the court against George Mason on Sunday in Lawrenceville.
