LAWRENCEVILLE—Both the Rider University
men's and women's tennis teams lost a non-conference match to George Mason on
Sunday in Lawrenceville.
“The men
were more competitive than the women,” said head coach Ed Torres. “The guys made George Mason work harder for
their points. On the women's side, we made too many unforced errors.”
For the
Rider men, senior Will Haight (Sewell/Washington Township) went three sets at
number one singles before losing 10-4 in the third set.
“Will
played well,” Torres said. “His match
was a slugfest, something you would expect from a number one singes match. It was fun and enjoyable to watch. Both players made some very good shots.”
Also for
the Bronc men, junior Aaron Goldenthal (West
Hartford, Conn./Hall)
won six games at number six singles before losing 7-5, 6-1.
“Aaron ran out of gas in his match,”
Torres said. “This was his first singles
match of the spring and that showed a little.
He gave a great effort.”
For the Rider women, senior Kristina Paich (Stanhope/Lenape Valley Regional), freshman Marly Roche (Sussex/High
Point Regional) and junior Mallory Garbaravage (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands
Regional) each won two games.
The Rider
women host Marist in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Monday at
3:00pm.
