Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
RIVERDALE, N.Y.--The Rider University volleyball team was swept by Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon.
The Jaspers won 25-22, 25-8, 25-20.
"Our pace very slow and we did not adjust to their style of play," said head coach Emily Ahlquist. "We were just not prepared for the match. We did not play our normal faster pace."
For Rider, senior Elyse Grassmuck (San Antonio, Texas/La Vernia) had 15 digs with senior Amanda Piccolini (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) adding 25 assists and sophomore Brittany Gajewski (Whitehouse Station/Hunterdon Central) adding 10 digs.
The match featured nine ties and four lead changes.
The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Broncs.
The Jaspers defeated the Broncs 3-2 in Lawrenceville earlier this season and lead the all-time series 20-4. Rider has not defeated Manhattan since the 2004 season.
Rider hosts Loyola Maryland on November 13 in a MAAC match at 1pm.
"It is a very exciting time heading into the last weekend," said Ahlquist. "The players get to play their last matches in Alumni Gym. It will be emotional, but it will also be very good to celebrate their careers."
