Broncs Pick up 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th at Binghamton

Rider at Binghamton Open

BINGHAMTON, NY-The Broncs had a runner-up, a third place, a fourth place and a fifth finisher at the Binghamton Open Sunday. "We still have a lot of things to work on but this is what we needed," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "We need to develop every week. Today we got a chance to watch a lot of wrestlers and get a feel for where we are at."

Senior 174 Rob Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) placed runner-up, junior 133 Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) placed third and junior 141 Aaron Nestor (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) placed fourth. Sophomore 149 Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco) placed fifth.

"Robbie (Morrison) looked good," Taylor said. 'He wrestled better today than he did last week. He was more aggressive."

In the finals Rob Morrison was pinned by the NCAA runner-up, Mark Lewnes of Cornell. In the semifinals he defeated Ryan McGarity of Binghamton 2-0. In the quarterfinals, Rob Morrison defeated Travis Erdman of Princeton 5-0. In the second round Rob Morrison defeated Mike Sadler of Harvard 10-0. Rob Morrison pinned Brendan Ard of Rutgers in 6:55 in the first round.

In the semifinals Kirchner was pinned by the eventual champion, Joe Stanzione of Cornell but came back to pin Matt Bystol of Columbia in 2:40 for third place. In the quarterfinals Kirchner defeated Kyle Gilchrist of Columbia 5-4. Kirchner drew a first-round bye before defeating Justin LaValle of ODU 10-7 in the second round. "Kirchner wrestled well," Taylor said. "That kid from Cornell is pretty tough. Jimmy wrestled better today."

In the semifinals, Nestor lost 4-2 to Hicks Manson of Cornell. In the consolations he defeated Mike Nevinger of Cornell before losing in the battle for third place to Anwar Goeres of Binghamton. Goeres is the top ranked 141 in the CAA. "Aaron came very close to beating the Binghamton kid, who has won the CAA Championship," Taylor said. "Aaron wrestled well."

In the quarterfinals, Nestor won 4-3 over Chris Villalonga of Cornell. In the second round Nestor pinned Clement Bommier of NYU in 5:10.  Nestor defeated Cody Kelly of Cornell 2-0 in the opening round and defeated Brian Guilfoyle of Binghamton 3-2 in the first round.

In the consolations, Cibula won by tech fall over Michael Krysiak of Gannon 18-2 and defeated Tommy DiVitantonio of Columbia 11-0. Against Drew Rebling of Columbia Cibula won 6-0 and he beat Ashtin Primus of Notre Dame 10-4 before losing to Steve Santos of Columbia. Cibula also lost 2-1 to Steve Santos of Columbia in the second round. Cibula defeated Tim Rich of Sacred Heart 13-0 in the first round. "I think Zach won five times," Taylor said.

Freshman 157 Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville) also won five bouts. "Ramon wrestled very well today," Taylor said. "He had a lot of wins." In the consolations, Santiago pinned Paul Hancock of Army in 4:06 and defeated Tom Straughn of Notre Dame 17-10 before losing 6-5 to Tyler Banks of Columbia. In the second round Santiago lost 6-3 to Bryce Buster of Bloomsburg. Santiago won 15-0 in the opening round and defeated Aaron Fry of Lock Haven in the first round 4-1.

In the quarterfinals, freshman Ray De La Nuez (Edison, N.J./Edison) lost 4-2 to Garrett Frey of Princeton. In the consolations he lost to Steven Keith of Harvard. De La Nuez  defeated Colton Dalberth of Lock Haven 16-4 in the second round. De La Nuez defeated Josh Kennedy of Cornell 13-4 in the opening round.

Senior 125 Tim Trivisonno (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) advanced in consolations on a medical forfeit before pinning Chris Brienza of American in 5:23. Trivisonno then defeated Joseph Matos of Gannon 5-4 and lost 8-5 to Nick Arujau of American. Trivisonno lost to Tyler Bisedha of Cornell in the first round.

Senior 149 Fred Rodgers (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) defeated Joey Metzler of ODU 9-4 in the consolations and Calvin Hawkes of NYU 12-0 before losing 2-1 to Ashtin Primus of Notre Dame. Rodgers lost to Kyle Dake of Cornell in the second round. Rodgers defeated Shane Strumwasser of Columbia 7-4 in the first round.

Freshman Vinny Fava (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park) lost 12-2 to Luke Vaith in consolations after defeating Justin Loudon of Lock Haven 3-1. Fava  lost 2-1 to Anwar Goeres of Binghamton in the second round. Goeres is the top ranked 141 in the CAA. Fava defeated Josh Houldsworth of Columbia 6-4 in the first round.

Senior Joe Ferber (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem High School East) drew a first round bye before defeating Travis Dale of Cornell 6-0. Ferber then lost 11-5 to Kadeem Samuels of Lehigh and did not compete in consolations.    

Freshman Evan Craig (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) lost on a tie-breaker to Craig Lukasz Stala of Cornell in the opening round and lost 3-0 in consolations to Blake Herrin of American.

Freshman Clint Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) defeated Brandon Vorrius of Brown 6-4 before losing 5-2 to William George of FLWC in the consolations. Morrison lost to Joe Bundi of ODU 8-3 in the first round.

Freshman Franklin Miele (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) wrestled unattached and in the consolations pinned Zach Moran of SHU in 2:45 before losing 10-9 Chris Smith of Bloomsburg. In the second round Miele lost 4-2 to Eren Civan of Columbia. Miele defeated David Foxen of Brown 6-3 in the first round.

Freshman James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) wrestled unattached and in the consolations defeated Keith Stoerr of Gannon 17-4 and pinned Spence Sarazin of NYU in 6:11 before losing to Nick Standish on a tie-breaker. Brundage lost to David Rice of NYU in the first round.

Freshman Chris Spagnola (Monroe Township, N.J./St. John Vianney) lost 17-1 to Jason Winckel of Cornell. In the consolations Spagnola won 5-3 against Richie Russel of Gannon before losing to Brandon Shull of Brown.

Freshman Joe Benedetti (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) lost in the consolations 5-1 to Gabe Brotzman of Brown. Benedetti lost to Kevin Hartnett of Bloomsburg in the opening round.

Freshman Nick Papa (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest) wrestled unattached and in the consolations lost 12-8 to Robert Shepard of Princeton. Papa lost to Rollie Peterkin of Penn in the first round.

Freshman Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway) went 0-2. Zeisloft lost 2-1 to Jerome Robinson of ODU in consolations. Zeisloft lost on a tie-breaker to Jamie Franco of Hofstra in the first round round.

Junior Kyle Hussey (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) lost to Luis Ramos of Princeton 5-0 in the first round and did not compete in consolations due to injury.

Freshman Nicholas Detsis (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) wrestled unattached and lost twice. In the consolations, Detsis lost 9-2 to Michael Krysiak of Gannon. Detsis lost to Brandon Rolnick of Princeton in the first round.

Rider competes again at the Keystone Classic next Sunday.
