LAWRENCEVILLE--Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams lost at Drexel Tuesday in the final match of the fall 2010 season.
For the Bronc men, sophomore Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) won four games at sixth singles before losing in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
For the Rider women, junior Tricia Ashmore (Sparta) won five games at second singles before falling 6-4, 6-1. The Broncs won a team point by default at sixth singles.
"I thought Ryan and Tricia played well for us," said head coach Ed Torres. "They played the best against a good, solid, very experienced team. They kept the ball in play and played the best overall."
The Bronc women open the spring 2011 schedule against Philadelphia U on March 24.
The Rider men travel to Baltimore to face Loyola Maryland in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match March 26.
"We played teams that were more experienced overall," Torres added about the fall season. "Especially on the men's side, we had five freshmen and five sophomores and you don't see improvement over night. Everyone worked hard and improved but still, you see improvement in years and not weeks or months.
