Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.--The Siena College Saints held the Rider University volleyball team to a .105 hitting percentage, sweeping the Broncs in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Saturday.
The Saints won 25-15, 25-16, 25-19.
For Rider (1-20, 0-11 MAAC), senior Amanda Piccolini (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) had 19 assists with senior Elyse Grassmuck (San Antonio, Texas/La Vernia) compiling 12 digs.
"Our passing was superb," said head coach Emily Ahlquist. "Our setters couldn't find the hitters and the hitters had trouble finding the floor. We passed the ball fine, it was just the other aspects."
Rider out blocked the Saints seven to five but were out hit .212 to .105.
"Siena played pretty good defense against us," Ahlquist added.
Senior Kristy Love (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) had a team-high eight kills and hit .400 in the match.
The match saw 12 ties and seven lead changes, nine ties and five lead changes in the opening set.
The teams last met in Lawrenceville 20 days ago with Siena posting a 3-1 win. The Saints defeated Rider 3-0 in Loudonville and 3-1 at Alumni Gym last season. Siena has won 18 of the 21 matches in the series against Rider with the last Bronc win in 2004.
Rider has lost 19 straight.
The Broncs stay on the road for a MAAC match at Fairfield on Sunday. Rider lost to Fairfield 3-0 earlier this season in Lawrenceville.
"We're excited about the match on Sunday," Ahlquist said. "We always like playing at Fairfield and I think the team is motivated as well."
