LAWRENCEVILLE--In the final home match of the fall 2010 season, both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were swept by Hofstra University in a non-conference match.
"We were out-classed by a superior team in every position," said head coach Ed Torres. "You improve by playing better players but we really have a lot of catching up to do to play against a team like Hofstra."
For the Rider men, sophomore Ryan Carpenter (Sahuarita, Ariz./Sahuarita) won five games at sixth singles before losing 6-3, 6-2.
"I thought Ryan played a nice match," Torres said. "He only won five games but went toe to toe with his opponent. His downfall was making some great shots but missing the easy ones."
Also for the men's team, freshman Rollie Malfitano (Wenonah/Gloucester Catholic) and sophomore Milo Milosovici (Flrence) won five games at first and second singles respectively.
Both teams travel to Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at noon.
