Broncs Nationally Ranked
Smith 19th, Bordas 18th
LAWRENCEVILLE-Coming off of their impressive showings at the Cliff Keen Invitational, a pair of Rider University wrestlers are now ranked among the top 20 in the nation in their respective weight classes, according to InterMat Wrestling.
Sophomore Tyler Smith (Phillipsburg, N.J./Belvidere) makes his first appearance in the national top 20, breaking in at 19th among 197 pounders after placing seventh at Cliff Keen.
Senior Ed Bordas (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central), who placed fifth at Cliff Keen by winning five of seven matches, is ranked 18th among heavyweights. A two-time Colonial Athletic Association champion, Bordas is ranked 15th by the WrestlingReport.com, 18th by WIN Magazine and 17th by Amateur Wrestling News.
Bordas, ranked first in the CAA, improved to 12-4 on the season. Smith, ranked second in the CAA, improved to 11-6 on the season.
Smith won six of eight matches at Cliff Keen, all six by fall. Smith was presented with the award for the most pins in the shortest time at the Cliff Keen Invitational. WIN Magazine has Smith ranked 16th and WrestlingReport.com has Smith ranked 25th in the nation.
The Broncs travel to West Point to take on Army Thursday.
