Rider 4, La Salle 3
LAWRENCEVILLE ? Junior Danielle Morse's (Edison/Hopewell Valley) victorious two and a half hour marathon match gave the Broncs their first spring season victory 4-3.
“It went down to the wire to the second singles match,” said head coach Ed Torres. “It was an amazing comeback for Rider.”
Down 1-4 in the third set, Morse faced three match points before battling her way back to a tie breaker ultimately winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) and giving Rider (1-3) the win.
“She went down three match points and she came back and won that game,” said Torres “It went into a tiebreaker where she fell behind again, but pulled it out for the Rider victory. It's one of the best comebacks I can remember in Rider history for women's tennis.”
Morse and partner, sophomore Kristina Paich (Stanhope/Lenape Valley Regional) won their match at number one doubles 8-6.
Also for the Broncs, sophomore Alyssa Markovits (Scotch Plains/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) won her match at fifth singles 6-4, 6-4.
Paich and freshman Amanda Matticks (Sewell/Washington Township) also had tough matches at first and fifth singles respectively.
“Paich and Matticks both had three set matches,” said Torres. “They both lost the third set, but they were both two hour matches. They played very well.” Paich lost her match 6-7 (7-5) 6-3, 6-1 and Matticks lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Rider faces Mount St. Mary's on Sunday in non-conference action followed by a re-scheduled match with Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Loyola on Monday.
